Living intentionally often requires us to assess where we are and what we want to move towards. It requires that we carve out time to be with God, to discern what He is calling us to. Sometimes this looks like casting a vision; sometimes this looks like digging deep and finishing strong. It requires us to ‘know to grow.’
What is Home Haven?
Home Haven was started in 2022 in Penn Valey CA with the purpose of supporting Christian homeschooling mamas by creating a space where they feel encouraged, equipped, and connected.

Meet the founder: Van Messer
Follower of Jesus, Learning Enthusiast, and Advocate for Expeditionary Learning.
Van Messer, the heart behind Home Haven, is passionate about encouraging and equipping homeschooling mamas to love their husbands well, build strong families, and raise great humans. Her philosophy is simple: “More is caught than taught.” Van believes that by aligning with God’s priorities and living intentionally, moms can transform their families and homes into havens of faith, growth, and love.
As a former homeschooling mom, Van’s personal journey inspired her to pay it forward. Together with her high school sweetheart, she homeschooled her children using an expeditionary learning approach, traveling extensively and experiencing life through the lens of curiosity and adventure. Van is a strong advocate for this self-directed, non-traditional style of education and loves connecting with moms interested in exploring it.
Background & Expertise:
Family Life: Born and raised in Ojai, California, Van married her high school sweetheart and built a family rooted in intentional living.
Education: Degree in Child Development and ICF-certified life coach (International Coaching Federation).
Passions:
Helping moms embrace non-traditional schooling and expeditionary learning.
Encouraging intentional living and biblical priorities in the home.
Coaching moms to lead out and model the life they want their children to live.
